Ursprünglich hätte die US-amerikanische Version des «Eurovision Song Contest» bereits in vollem Gang sein sollen, doch aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie wurde der Start ein wenig nach hinten geschoben, weswegen der «American Song Contest» am kommenden Montag, 21. März, beim US-Network NBC an den Start geht. Das Finale soll am 9. Mai über die Bühne gehen. Die Pause hat nun ServusTV Deutschland genutzt und sich die Rechte an dem achtteiligen Live-Event gesichert. Der österreichische Sender wird die von Snoop Dogg und Kelly Clarkson moderierte Sendung ins Free-TV bringen – ab dem 29. März immer dienstags ab 22:15 Uhr.Beim «American Song Contest» treten insgesamt 56 Musik-Acts, die für alle 50 US-Staaten, die fünf US-Territorien und die Hauptstadt an den Start gehen, gegeneinander an. Unter anderem singen für ihre Heimatstaaten der zweifache Grammy-Gewinner Michael Bolton ("How Am I Supposed To Live Without You“), Macy Gray ("I Try“), Sisqo ("The Thong Song“) und Jewel ("Intuition“). Die Live-Shows bestehen aus drei Runden, in denen die Künstler in fünf Qualifikationsrunden, gefolgt von den beiden Halb-Finals und dem großen Finale gegeneinander antreten, um den besten, originalen Song des Landes zu bestimmen.
Exklusiv für das deutschsprachige Publikum von ServusTV werden Musikgrößen aus Österreich und Deutschland wie Andreas Gabalier, Cesar Sampson und Alf Poier sowie Krone-Unterhaltungschef Norman Schenz die Shows kommentieren. „Qualität setzt sich am Ende immer durch: das dürfte das erwartbare Endergebnis sein, wenn die USA ihre erste Gesangsmeisterschaft abhalten. Bei dieser Weltpremiere des «American Song Contest» dank ServusTV mit dabei sein zu dürfen, ist somit einmalig und wird in jeder Runde unter Garantie für große Spannung sorgen", erklärt Norman Schenz.
ServusTV Unterhaltungs-Chef Martin Gastinger freut sich, den deutschen Zuschauern diese Musik-Show präsentieren zu können: „Diese einmalige Gelegenheit bei der Weltpremiere des «American Song Contests» dabei zu sein und die besten amerikanischen Sängerinnen und Sänger ins deutschsprachige Fernsehen zu holen, wollten wir uns einfach nicht entgehen lassen. Mit 56 Live-Acts in acht Shows der absoluten Extraklasse bieten wir großes Entertainment und zeigen, wie breit wir im Unterhaltungsbereich mittlerweile aufgestellt sind.“
